Day
Arrival at Lhasa airport. 1h30 min-drive to reach the city (3650m). Check-in at hotel and stroll in the old city.

Visit to several famous sites of Lhasa: The Potala Palace which was the house of the Dalai Lama until 1959 and which houses an impressive collection of Buddhist art works. At 2 min. from our hotel, in the heart of the old town, the Jokhang Temple whose pilgrims come from the confines of the Tibetan world.

Morning ascent to the great monastic university of Drepung which housed more than 7000 monks in a maze of chapels, temples and oratories. In the afternoon, visit to the monastic university of Sera where are always organized rhetorical contests and philosophical debates.

In the morning, 45 km-drive from Lhasa to the Ganden Monastery founded by Tsongkhapa in 1409 (headquarters of the Gelugpa School of Tibetan Buddhism). This historical site let us to understand better the habits and customs of these endearing people. On the way back, we stop to visit a factory of thangka, a Tibetan art of silk painting whose tradition has been going on for hundreds of years.

Trip to the Yamdrok Lake through some beautiful villages. We cross the Gampa La Pass on winding roads. On the top of the pass, we have an incredible view of the sacred lake Yamdrok. If the weather permits, we can also enjoy a fantastic view of the snowy peak of the Noijin Mountain. On the way back to Lhasa, we meet a Tibetan family to discuss their way of life.
